Warning. This item does NOT work with iphone 3GS. However it will power a older style ipod. I mistakenly purchased this charger (can't beat the price) but it does not work with the newer iphone's
Apple's new generation of devices (the 3G iPhone, the 2nd gen iPod touch and the 4nd gen iPod nano) no longer support 12v FireWire style charging, they only support 5v USB style charging. This adaptor will not work on the above listed devices. Apple has been slowly dropping FireWire support from the iPods, so expect this to be the case will all future devices as well.
Though it did not function in the way i expected it to, it does indeed do what it is designed to. i misread the description believing that it lets you use the device to play your mp3 in the car, but it charges it. however, i have found it to be quite useful. it works like a charm
It works very well with my FM transmitter. For those of you who just have an auxiliary connection in your car and don't want to purchase an aftermarket stereo system just for your iPod, this is the way to go if you just need a quick charge before you are on your way.
This was exactly what I expected it to be. The only thing I don't like is the bright blue light when it is charging. It is long enough to view the ipod while it is charging. We use it all the time and it is a great product. It is a little distracting at night. But other then that it is perfect.
